Sew, What's New?

Curating sewing and quilting talent, techniques, and tutorials, since 1997.

I really am very scappy. Since I began quilting I've been drawn to the scrappy look. That is why I am so pleased with the response to the fabric swap question I posted. It seems to me that no matter how much fabric I buy there's always that feeling that "If I just had one more blue or green!" I've also noticed that different areas of the country offer different fabrics too, and this just widens the possibilities. So, keep on responding to the fabric swap post and we'll get organized soon. This wall hanging is called "Scraps 'n Squares" (how original!) and I made it last winter. My home is decorated in mostly "country" colors so this was perfect for the living room. I must add that I do break out once in a while and do a pastel or primary color quilt! Making a child's quilt or a charity quilt usually will offer me this opportunity.

I'm a "Scrapaholic"! When I first began quilting, I couldn't bear to throw away even the smallest piece if it could be used in something. That is when I discovered my love of miniature quilts! I love the fact that I can finish them quickly and get that feeling of satisfaction you get when an item is done! Over the years, I have graduated to making larger quilts (easy now that I have a long-arm), and I have to force myself to throw away "unusable" scraps. My favorite quilts are still scrappies and I love the old fashion block patterns. I mean, this was the beginning for quilters!!!

I have some beautiful northern lights prints as well as some beautiful northern game batics from Yellowknife. You are right - every area of the country has something a little bit different.

Your wall hanging is beautiful! I am really looking forward to the fabric swap too. I have also noticed that different areas often have fabric I have never seen before - when we went to PEI CA last year I planned part of the trip around fabric stores that I wanted to visit! I came away with some beautiful pieces.
