Well, it's all finished. My Modern She Made Swap project is in the mail, winging it's way to Florida, USA.
It is a big bag - 16 1/2" long x 6 1/2" wide x 14" high. I made it to be able to carry a 14" quilting hoop or embroidery hoop safely inside. It is very, very roomy and completely padded to protect your precious cargo.
Inside the bag is divided into three separate compartments - again all padded to protect. Ideal for carrying around your lovely books. No more bent corners or damaged covers! The middle compartment is 1" wide so even big, thick books will fit.
There is also a pocket along one internal side that has been divided into three - one big enough to hold a 6 1/2" ruler and two others big enough for scissors, rotary cutters and all manner of other things.
As one of the requirements of the swap was that the item needed to incorporate a circle in some way, I have raw edged machine appliqued circles to each end of the bag and also have sewn in beautiful, shiny circle rings into the handles.
As an additional little gift for my partner I have whipped up a little matching needlecase. Pretty cute eh!?!? I will very shortly be writing a free tutorial for this so keep watching this space!
I have had so much fun making this bag. It has been a real design learning experience for me. It took me a little time to figure out the internal engineering of the bag and the correct order of the construction steps. I was determined to make it all my own endeavours so I did not look at any other patterns at all. I had in my head the way it had to be and was determined to make it just so!!
I love this bad so much for it's beauty and versatility that I am going to reward myself with one! I have also already been commissioned to make one for a friend and have been asked for the pattern by others. Therefore, I will be making a pattern for it as well. There are a few other patterns in the works first but it won't be too far off.
Until next time, happy quilting, knitting, sewing, crafting ....
