Sew, What's New?

I'm recycling a dress into something wearable for Christmas. (It used to have a big leopard print collar and cuffs...yuck). I re-fashioned a vintage belt yesterday with some green satin to give a pop of color. Now I need to lengthen the dress (and coordinate with my choir colors) for church...can't be on stage with a dress over the knees! Don't want to show the entire church (we expect around 10,000 people for Christmas Eve services) all my business! LOL What do you think of adding a band of green satin at the hem and around the cuffs? I also thought I might make some green satin piping for the neckline. I think I've been staring at it for too long, because I cannot make up my mind.
Give me some honest opinions, please. You won't hurt my feelings. Oh, and by the way, I realize the band is wonky at the moment. I promise to sew it on straight. :o)

Birdie - I totally botched the dress. I screwed up the band at the bottom and didn't have enough fabric for a do-over. I'll be wearing black pants instead, which, actually works out better as I'm standing at the edge of the stage. Wearing the dress would have made me nervous that someone might be able to see up the skirt ;oP I am using the belt and the little vintage button/bobble around my neck. I'll take a picture and post later.

Fabulous! You're a brave woman! I like it jsut like it is. Maybe with a green beaded necklace instead of piping?

Bravo Larri for reusing and reconstructing. You've done a fine job. Please keep on with it. I also remake clothing from other clothing and I always get lots of great comments on my recreations. This match looks really lovely, womanly and yet, just a bit of zip in the green satin.

I think that looks very nice with the piping at the neck , a band on the bottom and the cuffs, it brings it all together, very smart, good luck with it and I hope you have a lovely christmas eve service.

Good thoughts, Becky. I'm not crazy about flowers, but I do like the ruffles. Hmmm...more ideas brewing. Thanks! :o)

Good point Patricia, though I'm not directing. I'm happily just singing my little heart out! Oh, and it's ten thousand people we expect to come to our services. Isn't that exciting?!? :o)

Where will your cuffs be most of the time during the Service? If you are conducdting, the color might be distracting to ooth choir members and the audience. You could do detachable ones and add them for a more informal gathering.

Are you really going to have then doloars worth of audience? LOL 10.00 unless I'm not reading well! :)
