PLEASE HELP: bobbin case is in need of repair?

How can you tell if your bobbin case is in need of repair? I have a feeling that my problem is with either the bobbin case or the needle plate. I have a babylock Ellure. The "safety device" has been activated and the handwheel won't turn freely. I broke two needles prior to the error message,so now what? I am in tears trying to resolve this?

Is this a system where you drop the bobbin in - and it rides horizontally below the throat plate? Make SURE your bobbin turns counter clockwise when you pull the thread - it should be coming off the bobbin from the top - and left. i'm pretty sure... check that out. Also - without bobbin in, without thread in the top - what happens when you step on the gas pedal?
