Fat Quarter Shop's Notion of the Month Sale

I have gradually amassed quite a collection of different feet for my Janome.  To start off with they all fitted in this little wooden box.  Trouble is, every time I wanted one I had to dig out the box and tip them all out to find the one I wanted.

I cast about for different ideas, tried some little drawers, and ended up using my embroidery floss storage box (here or for the U.S. here).  It's ideal in that the dividers go right to the top and the lid clips on securely, so the feet can't get out of their compartments even if it is on end or even upside down!  (I have filled it, so if I buy any more I will have to buy another box!)

I made map of what was there and fitted it inside the lid (like a chocolate box selection!)

I finished it off with a printed label for the lid.

and now I keep it on my little bookshelf (along with my Sewing Machine Needle Organizer) as it takes up very little room and is far more handy!

I love being organised!

I use those weekly  pill containers to hold my sewing feet. Also other small things like safety pins and  different needles, snaps and hook and eyes, thimbles..

Hi Beverly

Thank you, but I don't do anything special with my fabrics.  I have one cupboard with a shelf of plain and a shelf of patterned cottons arranged by colour, including clothing.  I have a big drawer of denim and corduroy clothes and another of furnishing/curtain fabric.  I do a lot of recycling!  Then I have a drawer full of ziplock bags with scraps sorted by colour, and small amounts of felt, fleece, satin, lace, nylon, oilcloth etc.  I do the same with my interfacing, and write what it is on the bag.  That's it at the moment.  I did do a blog about my sewing room organisation recently (http://sew-whats-new.com/profiles/blogs/let-s-talk-about-being-orga...) for other stuff.

This is a great idea. You seem to have a lot of them. This might help me to know what feet do what. Do you have any ideas about storing fabric. I'm new to this and don't have much but I thought if I can start our organized it might be easier then doing it later.

This is a very clever idea. Since I don't use my special feet (that sounds funny!) very often, it will also help me to remember which foot does what!
