Spotlight: This artist composes with cloth

Any quilt is a miraculous feat of human dedication and creativity. Nancy Crow's quilts, currently on display at the Fuller Craft Museum in Brockton, have been heralded globally as groundbreaking in the world of art.

Most people would agree that the intricate stitching, the inspirational designs, the sheer man hours and personal energy that goes into completing a quilt makes each one precious.

But what distinguishes an "art quilt?" Crow herself dismisses the accolade, explaining, "You don't say 'art painting' or 'art sculpture.' You have to apply to quilts that are art the same tough guidelines as for any art. I am an artist and I make quilts." [continue]

This reminds me of women in the past using quilts to express their creative side.
