How to sew darts
Dart placement depend on your body - you only use darts where you need "shaping" or where you have a curve and you need the fabric to lay smooth over that part of your body - Darts are easy to sew and it is work magic in any garment you sew.

Darts are pressed toward the center of the body in the final press. Back darts toward the spine, front darts toward the bellybutton and horizontal darts are pressed down or parallel to the floor. If you don't want to spend money on having your machine timed or risk breaking needles I don't recommend sewing over pins.

I learned to press the dart flat from this video. I had always just pressed it immediately to the side. There is always something to learn.
