Hi "scholastic", the thread does not go through the button shank, hence the hook & eye holes
! check it out again, the thread goes through the hook & eye holes.

With the button with the shank, what is the purpose of using the metal eye and hook materials if you are going to sew through the button shank? Does that defeat the purpose?
