My MawMaw passed away almost 2 years ago.  She made almost all of her quilt tops like the way you have made this square.  She made hers on a Singer Treadle machine, which I now have in my dining room.  I was lucky enough to inherit it.  Before she got sick, she pieced around 25 quilt tops using this technique...one for each daughter, and each grandchild. They are the most beautiful heirlooms.  I will never forget her nimble hands ironing scraps of fabric till they would almost stand on their own they were so stiff, then placing them on paper and sewing them with that machine, her feet peacefully and patiently sewing every stitch with love.
