Tell us what you think!
Comment by kathy53 on March 5, 2011 at 10:07am This is a neat video because the skirt has alot of style options. To go a bit further, I would like to suggest a few tips:
1--Zipper: When working with the back pieces, insert the zipper first, before sewing up the side seams (not at the end of the project). This is probably in the original pattern instructions. Always try to find a way to sew a zipper into a seam before assembling the entire garment. That way you can work flat.
2--Front: many skirt patterns have darts in front. I would have aligned that front panel with a dart.
3--Waistband: this skirt could have a waistband (or not). The most simple option would be a bias edge. If you want the waistband, I would resume the original pattern instructions for that after completing the side seams.
Size and Style? Any simple skirt pattern will do, just use a size in your hip measurements and go from there.
Style note: Why not make this a true wrap skirt? That would eliminate the back zipper entirely and make fitting a breeze! Just cut 4 of the front wrap panels and sew up as shown in the video. This will give you 2 lined front panels (you won't need the full center front piece). Cut out the skirt back pattern in 1 piece by putting the Center Back seam line on the fold. Sew the 2 front panels to the back at the side seams as shown in the video. You will want to add a bias edge or waistband around the waistline to finish it.
I was a little confused....probably because I'm no good at making clothes. How do you know what size to make all your pattern pieces?
