Surprisingly infrormative, I really liked all the tips and by the comment from Karen about get good first and fast later! Good to remember - if the thread loops below, its your top thread . If your thread loops above, its your bobbin that neads to be adjusted.

Good comments, especially, the gentleman named Peter Lapin(sp.). I think he summed up the best thrift tip. New to sewing doesn't require a new machine. We had a motto at work, that I still use after retirement...."get good first, fast later." If you start to learn sewing on the older machine, you won't be tempted by all of the gizmo's. You have to focus on the basic stitches, and once you have them, you can began your big adventure.
