Sew, What's New?

Curating sewing and quilting talent, techniques, and tutorials, since 1997.

I made this for my first 5k (and my 2nd race) I ran on Saturday :) I made it from recycled wool sweaters, and appliqued "3.1" (how many miles are in a 5k) on it. I even made a reinforced ponytail h*** in the back. If you want more info on the running clothes I made, with links to tutorials, they are on my blog:

A friend got me to start a "couch to 5k" program with her, but she dropped off. I wanted to keep going, so I found a local running store that had a free walk-2-run program that started out slow, and worked it's way up to 30 minutes of running. I didn't finish the first session, because I got sick, then went on vacation, but I completed the next session. If you would have told me a year ago that I could run for 5 minutes straight I would have laughed. Now I am a runner! Since my son was a baby, i've steadily been gaining weight, but since i've started running, over the summer, I have lost 14 pounds & feel great. Seeing the results is powerful motivation for me.

I wish I was a runner. I've tried, but I always get discouraged and quit. How did you two get started?

This is awesome! I, too, am a runner and just finished knitting a hat I plan to use on my runs. But, I may have to have 2 hats. I've made a pair of running pants so I'm heading over to your blog to see what you've done. Thanks for the inspiration.
