T shirt surgery TIMES 2

Well I just finished another t shirt surgery.  I bought a pink tee at Goodwill for my DD. She is 5 weeks pregnant, so I decided to use the tee to make her a cute top.   I had bought some black cotton with hot pink swirls at Hobby Lobby.  I cut the top off below the bust, cut and gathered enough fabric to make a full, maternity top.  I made and attached 2 ties so she can "grow" into it.  I made some jersey flowers a while… Continue

Elna 7300 Users

I am looking for other Elna 7300 users.  I would like to know if anyone has had trouble with the painted finish on their machine.  My machine, less than two years old, has paint chips, scratches, and pin marks.

headband holder

I got this idea from Cherie but instead of using an oatmeal container, I used my daughter's empty cans of milk.  I've put a cup of sand (or rocks) for each can to have some weight and make it stable.  You can glue the lids back on or tape…

Tips for Sewing With Soft Minky Fabric

My baby quilts are soft, cuddly, and can make a wonderful touch and feel blanket, as well.

What gives the quilts that added special touch? The fabric is called minky, which is luxurious and silky…

Things I Enjoy...............

So, I went to our local Goodwill yesterday.  I was determined to find a few tees for some tee surgeries! I am a bit leery of admitting, but even at Goodwill, I am really picky about the things I get.  I buy tee shirts that have something pretty on them.  I look for stuff that I can cut up or repurpose.  I found out just 2 days ago that I'm gonna be sewing for an extra family member in about 8 months.  So, I… Continue

Bitten by a bug??

I think the sewing bug has really been biting on me this week! I have been making hair bows (but have no one to give them to), pillowcase dresses (no one to give them to), unmentionable purse pouches, fleece hats for this winter for Grandson Noah, age 2, and have a pair of jeans that I''m gonna try to make into a skirt....the kind where you cut off the jeans just below the zipper and add fabric to the bottom...  Also, I'm just about to die to go to our local thrift store for a few tee shirts…

How long does it take to know what you are doing?

It seems like just yesterday that I joined this wonderful network of friends, and believe it or not, it has been a year!! (or a bit more) Family emergencies and life seem to hit us like a brick wall, and then it takes us some time to get over the bruises and injuries of hitting that wall.  My mother had an accident not too long ago that has had me traving a lot to take care of her, not just a few miles, but 250 miles one way.  You don't mind because you remember how much your mother has been…

It’s all sew beautiful - Australia's Zelma Steeper

When Zelma Steeper finished sewing her daughter Beverly’s wedding dress, she made sure it looked “as good on the inside as it did out”, says Beverly Silby, now 71.

So much so that on one occasion the young woman accidentally wore it inside out.

Mrs Silby came from the NSW Riverina to attend the opening night of The White Wedding Dress…
