Autumn Awesome-ness

It's all in the color!! Once again Moda fabric by Sandy Gervais have come through with a beautiful line of fabric. I created this quilt with one charm pack and one jelly roll...plus a little yardage for the borders. Right now my hubby is upset because I took it to work to hang in my office!…

ALL MY NEW MINIATURES...

I've been working on minis for an empty wall in the office/ den. This is "Tree 'O Life" by Piece of Cake Designs. One of my previous quilts used orange and purple and I got alot of comments on how people liked that unlikely combo of colors. This combination of orange and turquoise has been another revelation: "Who knew!" My picture is crooked but the hanging is actally straight...taking photos is not something I'm very adept…

Watching Windmills

As I've been surfing thru the internet lately I've been noticing quite alot of Windmill quilts being created. I suddenly had a light bulb moment and realized: "I have one of those!"

I made this scrappy windmill about 8 years ago and I titled it "Persistence". Each block is 4" and there are a total of 400 blocks set 20 x 20. I did have some help from my freinds who donated 6" squares so I could keep it as scrappy as possible. I keep…

Tranquility Trail

I finished this great wallhanging today! Well, it still needs to be quilted, but I'll do that soon. This design was offered by Moda Fabrics and I used their line of Tranquility fabrics. It has so much movement and color. You can find that pattern here: http://www.modabakeshop.com/2010/02/off-grid-sliced-nine-patch-quilt.html. It…

Marvelous Modas

Saturday, January 16, 2010 MARVELOUS MODAS I think any of us who quilt like at least some of the fabrics offered by MODA. So, imagine having 480 - 2 1/2" squares from the Moda Bakeshop Sampler to play with. I recently purchased the Sampler and have only used 81 in this wallhanging. I used the brighter colors for this with a dark and light green border (the picture doesn't do the color justice!). Now, that leaves 399 squares to play with in another… Continue

SELVAGE WALLHANGING

This is my new selvage wall hanging. It doesn't get much easier than sewing strips to a foundation piece!! There are so many memories in those crazy selvages!! It measures 40" X 40" and has 64 Four inch blocks. Start saving those selvages girls...this is too much fun!

YO-YO QUILT IS DONE!!

I have actually finished this long desired Yo-Yo quilt. I have always admired the vintage yo-yo quilts I've seen over the years and always wanted to have one of my own. I was able to complete this quilt with the help of many blogging freinds who kindly sent me scraps to add to the overall peach, pink and yellow color scheme. I thank you all very much. Another great factor in completing this is the Clover Yo-Yo maker, it sped things up considerably,… Continue

Synergy Blocks Completed!!

The blocks are finally complete!! This is a "Synergy" block designed by Jinny Beyer. It has been paper pieced and it's 10" square. I like to do my paper pieceing on tracing paper. I buy large 14" X 17" pads of paper from Hobby Lobby and trace the patterns myself. I do a lot of paper pieceing and I find that tracing paper holds up very nicely with the smaller stitches required and it folds nicely for trimming without any tears. The hardest part of this… Continue

The Search for Peach and Pink Scraps

Since I read the yo-yo post in the Quilting group I have been very busy! I calculated I needed1232 yo-yo's for a 42" X 66" throw. So I started digging through the stash and cutting the fabric. To my surprise, I counted the one's that were done and I have 680 yo-yo's completed! I love the colors in the picture above so I am staying in that color and random design mode. I rotary cut all the circles from 4 1/2" squares, which made it fast and efficient.… Continue

Laptop Cover

Recently there was a "flying" cat who dashed across the table and knocked my laptop on the floor. Since then I haven't been able to close it properly so I decided to make a cover for it. In my stash of completed blocks that have never made it into a quilt, I found 18 blocks perfect for this. The colored fabrics are hand dyes I did about 10 years ago and then made these small 4 1/2" blocks. It slips over the monitor section and has the same design on… Continue

Swapping on the Internet

I'm so excited with the new fabric swap!! There was such a great response to my original discussion on the quilting page. We all need to thank Susan, the editor, for all her work in coordinating emails and swap partners. I've always loved swapping, but since I'm not in a guild anymore I don't seem to have much opportunity. Isn't the internet great! Anyhow, this picture is my Country Rose wallhanging. It is all hand appliqued and then machine quilted.… Continue

?? CHRISTMAS IN JULY ??

I've been noticing alot of "Christmas in July" promotions over the past month. It always seems the holidays creep up on me and every year I say I'm going to make this or that. Last winter I was flipping thru books and magazines to come up with an idea for a wallhanging. I found beautiful ideas but, each one was too Christmasy (is that a word?!). So I decided I would design my own wallhanging that could stay up longer throughout the winter. This… Continue

I'm "sew" scrappy!

I really am very scappy. Since I began quilting I've been drawn to the scrappy look. That is why I am so pleased with the response to the fabric swap question I posted. It seems to me that no matter how much fabric I buy there's always that feeling that "If I just had one more blue or green!" I've also noticed that different areas of the country offer different fabrics too, and this just widens the possibilities. So, keep on responding to the fabric… Continue

Door Topper

I work on alot of quilts at the same time as do most quilters, I think. Some days I cut, or pin, hand sew or machine sew. I might have lots of blocks to press, or paper to remove from a paper pieced project. But a good portion of these projects take some time and every now and again I like to throw in something quick and easy. That's when I decided to do the door topper. I was looking around the living room and thought to myself that the area over the… Continue

DO WHAT YOU LOVE....

DO WHAT YOU LOVE WITH ALL YOUR HEART. That's what this wallhanging in my sewing room says!! I couldn't agree more. I have been sewing forever (we'll keep that undisclosed!), and have been quilting for 20 years. Although I've tried my hand at many crafts, cross stitch, tole painting, floral arranging and so on, sewing has always been my passion. This is where the bulk of my "investment" to myself lies. I truly believe that purchasing good tools:… Continue
