Kate Brown's frustration at attempting to use a sewing pattern set the groundwork for her now successful Papercut Pattern business.

It started in 2008 with a Saturday night party invitation and the proverbial "nothing to wear"!

As a graduate of fashion and graphic design in Christchurch and manager of an Auckland fabric store Kate Brown decided to solve her fashion dilemma by making her own outfit.

She flicked through a pattern book, selected an outfit and purchased the pattern. This was her first time using a dressmaking pattern, and as she got confused with the instructions, put a tear in the tissue, and wanted to scream with exasperation, it occurred to her that other people must have the same problems... read on!
