As they mix, match, stitch and sew, Karen Rex and her 13-year-old daughter, Emily, work to repurpose outfits that they'll display at the Runway Repurposed fashion show Feb. 12.
The mother-daughter duo from Hartland Township are two of 42 area designers participating in the fashion show, which will be held at Howell High School, 1200 W. Grand River Ave. in Howell.
The Rexes heard about the event through a 4-H newsletter and decided to run with it.
"Emily sews and I'm a sewing leader in 4-H, and we thought it'd be fun to try," Karen Rex said. "Neither of us had repurposed clothing before, but it seemed like a great idea, and we both have our own ideas we want to make for the show."... [read on]
The great thing about recycled and refashioned clothing is the way that old clothes, styles and fabrics inspire the designers to create something gorgeous and new.
