Sew, What's New?

Curating sewing and quilting talent, techniques, and tutorials, since 1997.

Well, I'm thinking positively about starting a sewing business. I'm thinking to start small. Like making backpacks for teens. I have 2 teenage sons. Sew, I'm going to make my 16 year old son one and see how it goes from there. (The easy packs they use now at school, not the ones that the rest of the world uses).

Does anyone think this is a good idea?

Well not embroidery (yet), but this is also a great idea! I see so many kids (teen boys) that just have the run of the mill stuff. I'm thinking of stenciling on their sport to begin with, as that is easier. Once I make money the embroidery would be good or I was even thinking - pictures. With all the photo printing stuff around and me being the computer whiz that I am...

Also my 19 year old son is without a job, maybe I can teach him how to sew a straight line so he can help. I think even males can do that.

Susan and Jane you are so encouraging. You both must be my Fireflies...sparks in the night...

I have a teen too. He's 18. I think this is a good idea... you could make some stylish bags for kids who are all about how they look... and bags for kids who are into sports. Personally, I really wish there were more affordable, good quality bags for kids in sports. I have three stepkids in sports year round and they need bags for soccer cleats, etc... If you can embroider by machine that would be a big plus to put their names on the bags. I saw a teenage girl at a soccer field the other day with her name embroidered across the middle of her soccer bag.

Thanks for the encouragement. Other people do this all the time.

I think it is a great idea, very innovative. What could be better than having your teenage son doing the marketing for you. You may want to give him an incentive for every order that you get from his friends that way he will be sure to show it off. Good luck in your new venture.
