Sew, What's New?

Curating sewing and quilting talent, techniques, and tutorials, since 1997.

I recently tried out a couple patterns/tutorials I found online, which I was happy with.  I'll post the blog links below.

One was for a bifold wallet.  This is my "test" wallet done with fabric scraps.

I used a velcro closure instead of a snap since I wanted to try it out first.

My husband snatched this one for himself since his wallet is falling apart, and showed me how perfectly it fit into his pants pocket.  I told him I'd make him a more "manly" one if he could wait a few days since I suggested that this one was more appropriate for kids.  He conceded and hesitantly gave me back my flowery-butterfly-velcro wallet, heehee.  Now I'm on a mission to find that macho, manly fabric I promised him.

My 11yr. old son also wanted a wallet, and wanted to sew it himself.

So, he did one with my supervision and a little sewing help.

He was happy with it and promptly slipped in the only card he currently has...his library card.  When we went to the library the other day he seemed more than a little pleased to pull out his wallet to get his library card for check out.  I couldn't help but smile.  :)

The other tutorial was for a pleated zippered pouch which I first made with fabric scraps and a zipper from my stash.

I liked it so much I made another one for one of my daughter's friends for her birthday.

These were quick and easy to make and I was happy with how they turned out...I want to make tons of these for gifts for all the girlies in my family! :)

The bifold wallet tutorial can be found here at Jodell's blog, Modest Maven.  The instructions were great with photos throughout taking you step by step.

The pleated zippered pouch tutorial can be found here at Cindy's blog, Skip to my Lou.  Again, great instructions with photos to take you through every step.

I commend everyone who posts photo tutorials online!  Just taking pictures of finished projects, uploading and editing them, then posting them is a big least for me.  I can't imagine taking pictures at every step while preparing, cutting, and sewing a project!  But, I'm grateful to people who do it because I love how much it helps and inspires me!

Happy Sewing and Peace All~

Well done that boy!  I know how it would have made me feel to see him use his own wallet. Will bookmark these for future use. Thanks for sharing.
